Tóm tắt/chú giải This book will examine the emotional landscape of family relationships during the imprisonment of a family member focusing on prison visits as a key site of connection but also potential tensions. The core themes will be to explore families’ experiences interrelationship in the context of the prison spaces and those situated in public spaces, such as welfare, social services and personal spaces in the home; and how both penal and public spaces have had a significant impact on intensifying specific emotions, surrounding psychological and social hardships. Drawing on testimonies from relatives of prisoners including wives, husbands and parents, all of whom have dedicated consistent support to either male or female prisoners. The author will provide an explorative account on the families’ experience in relation to the role of space and agency; and the extent to which certain spaces have enabled families to feel empowered and to create a sense of agency.
